Debra Barnett began her career at WSU Vancouver in 1997. Her wide range of duties includes providing direct assistance to Dr. June Canty, the Director of Education Programs. As the primary point of contact for the unit, Debra works with both internal and external constituencies, and oversees administrative operations. She is responsible for budget reconciliation and maintenance, expenditure control, and fiscal analysis, and coordinates mentor teacher stipend payments as well as payroll and personnel tasks. Her responsibilities include supervising the office staff, providing support to faculty, taking minutes at unit meetings, and managing the course scheduling process. She also serves as Webmaster for the WSUV College of Education web site.

She is also an alum of WSUV, earning a Professional Writing Certificate and a BA in Anthropology with a minor in English while working full-time. She has  taken graduate-level courses as well and considers herself a lifelong learner. As a licensed Notary Public for the State of Washington, Debra offers her professional services free of charge to the WSU Vancouver community.

Debra  is currently involved in several campus activities. In Fall 2010, she was appointed to the Diversity Council. She is a singer in the WSUV Community Choir, which is comprised of faculty, staff, students, and community volunteers. She is serving her fifth year as choir president. She manages the email list for River Cities Anthropological Society, the WSUV anthropology club. She was a founding member of these two organizations. In 2008, she acted as Business Manager for the Columbia Choral Ensemble for a concert tour of the United Kingdom. This group included a number of singers from the WSUV Community Choir. Debra attended the WSU-PSU Archaeology Field School at Fort Vancouver in 2005 and 2008, and in Summer 2010, participated in the excavation of Kanaka Village at the Fort as a volunteer. She is currently assisting in the analysis of artifacts uncovered in this dig.

The Pacific Nothwest has been home to Debra for most of her life. She graduated from Hudson's Bay High School in Vancouver. Of mixed ethnicity, she has been conducting genealogical research with her son and elder brother. Debra is espeically fond of music and is particularly known for her love of The Beatles. She lives with her husband in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. They have three grown children and eight grandchildren.
